Vehicles between 15 and 28 tonnes are now able to access the valley with Council permission, under stop/slow conditions.

As the area remains a construction site, safety procedures must be followed.

For vehicles between 15 and 28 tonnes to access the site:

• Please email the Manager Transport and Public Access, Nicole Hume at nhume@bmcc.nsw.gov.au with at least two working days’ notice to obtain a permit for the heavy vehicle access.
• A permit will be required to be carried and shown to traffic control on site. Traffic controllers will then coordinate access through the site.

Please note that if the same vehicle needs to access the valley multiple times, only one permit will be required. Vehicles over 15 tonnes that are not scheduled to enter the valley will be turned back to ensure safety is maintained on site.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to ring in the New Year at the NYE event in Parramatta Park from 5pm - 9.30pm. Fireworks at 9pm. Entry is free and no tickets are required.

Parramatta Park will be closed to all vehicles from 6am on Tuesday 31 December 2024. There will be no parking inside the Park and a number external parking spaces around the Park will not be available due to event operations.

Motorists should expect some delays throughout Parramatta CBD and surrounding Parramatta Park, motorists should also exercise caution and be aware of increased pedestrian activity on roads in the area.

Road closures:

• Westmead from 4pm to 10pm: sections of Alfred St, Central Ave, Park Ave and Railway Pde
• Westmead from 6pm to 10pm: sections of Caroline St and Queens Rd
• Parramatta from 8pm to 10pm: sections of Argyle St and Park Pde
• Parramatta from 8.30pm to 10pm: sections of George St, Hunter St, Macquarie St, O’Connell St and Pitt St

Street parking will be removed from 6am on NYE at the following locations:

Large crowds are expected to visit Taronga Zoo during the holiday period between Friday 27 December and Sunday 5 January. Heavy traffic is expected on roads approaching the Zoo including Military Rd.

Changed traffic conditions will be in place to manage traffic volumes:

• Stop/slow traffic conditions will be in place between 9am and 3pm on Bradleys Head Rd to manage vehicle access and traffic flow to and from the Zoo car park.
• When the Zoo car park reaches capacity there will be no general vehicle access on Bradleys Head Rd from Whiting Beach Rd.
• Access will be maintained for buses and ferry wharf passengers as well as patrons of the Athol Hall Function Centre and the Sydney Harbour National Park.

Motorists should follow the directions of traffic controllers on site and allow plenty of extra time.

United Cup Tennis at Ken Rosewall Arena at Sydney Olympic Park from Saturday 28 December to Sunday 5 January. Day sessions start at 10:30am and night sessions from 5:30pm.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park including on the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road as tennis fans travel to and from each match.

Attendees who need to drive are encouraged to pre-book parking online ahead of time to secure a space, available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior.

The Royal National Park is expected to be busy over the Christmas and New Year holiday period between 21 Dec and 3 Feb.

Visitors are encouraged to check the Royal National Park local alerts before travelling for updates on precinct access.

Walking trails may also be closed due to total fire bans and/or risks, so plan ahead. 

Roads or carparks may close within the Royal National Park when they reach capacity.

Traffic will be heavy on roads approaching and within Parramatta as fans travel to and from the game. Allow extra travel time on Parramatta Rd, Church St, Victoria Rd, James Ruse Dr and Pennant Hills Rd.

Motorists should also exercise caution as pedestrian activity will be high on roads between Parramatta Interchange and the stadium.

Roads outside the stadium may close to allow crowds to safely leave the venue. Roads will re-open once crowds have cleared the area. 

Be patient leaving car parks as traffic will be heavy and follow the directions of traffic controllers and Police.
