Vehicles between 15 and 28 tonnes are now able to access the valley with Council permission, under stop/slow conditions.

As the area remains a construction site, safety procedures must be followed.

For vehicles between 15 and 28 tonnes to access the site:

• Please email the Manager Transport and Public Access, Nicole Hume at nhume@bmcc.nsw.gov.au with at least two working days’ notice to obtain a permit for the heavy vehicle access.
• A permit will be required to be carried and shown to traffic control on site. Traffic controllers will then coordinate access through the site.

Please note that if the same vehicle needs to access the valley multiple times, only one permit will be required. Vehicles over 15 tonnes that are not scheduled to enter the valley will be turned back to ensure safety is maintained on site.

The Warringah Freeway southbound off-ramp to Alfred St North is closed until mid 2025.  

There are a number of other long-term changes to Alfred St North as part of the Warringah Freeway Upgrade project.

The Sydney Fish Market 36-hour trading period will start from 5am Monday 23 December to 5pm on Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24 December.

Heavy traffic is expected on the Western Distributor approaching the Pyrmont and Glebe off-ramps as well as on local roads in the area surrounding the Fish Market.

Motorists are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time as parking will be in very high demand.

Parking is available at Sydney Fish Market car park, access via Bank St, and also nearby at Sydney Secondary College on Pyrmont Bridge Rd.

Motorists should follow the direction of traffic controllers, particularly if car parks are at capacity.

Pedestrian access to the markets will be via the corner of Bank St and Pyrmont Bridge Rd, Pyrmont Bridge Rd near Wattle St and opposite the Fish Market Light Rail stop on Bank St.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to ring in the New Year at the NYE event in Parramatta Park from 5pm - 9.30pm. Fireworks at 9pm. Entry is free and no tickets are required.

Parramatta Park will be closed to all vehicles from 6am on Tuesday 31 December 2024. There will be no parking inside the Park and a number external parking spaces around the Park will not be available due to event operations.

Motorists should expect some delays throughout Parramatta CBD and surrounding Parramatta Park, motorists should also exercise caution and be aware of increased pedestrian activity on roads in the area.

• Westmead from 4pm to 10pm: sections of Alfred St, Central Ave, Park Ave and Railway Pde
• Westmead from 6pm to 10pm: sections of Caroline St and Queens Rd

Large crowds are expected to visit Taronga Zoo during the holiday period between Friday 27 December and Sunday 5 January. Heavy traffic is expected on roads approaching the Zoo including Military Rd.

Changed traffic conditions will be in place to manage traffic volumes:

• Stop/slow traffic conditions will be in place between 9am and 3pm on Bradleys Head Rd to manage vehicle access and traffic flow to and from the Zoo car park.
• When the Zoo car park reaches capacity there will be no general vehicle access on Bradleys Head Rd from Whiting Beach Rd.
• Access will be maintained for buses and ferry wharf passengers as well as patrons of the Athol Hall Function Centre and the Sydney Harbour National Park.

Christmas at the Cathedral will take place over 12 days in the forecourt of St Mary’s Cathedral, from Thursday 12 to Wednesday 25 December. The event will run each night from 5:30pm to 10:30pm. The night will have food stalls, live entertainment, and a light show.

College St between Prince Albert Rd and Park St outside the Cathedral will remain open throughout the event however road closures may be implemented under Police discretion for crowd safety.

Motorists should avoid driving through the area at the end of the event or expect long delays. 

Roads within and around The Domain Sydney will close for crowd safety before, during and after the event:

• From 7pm, Art Gallery Rd will be closed to incoming traffic.
• From 10pm, sections of College St, Cathedral St, Hospital Rd, Macquarie St, Prince Albert Rd, St Mary’s Rd and St James Rd will be closed.

Parking in the area is limited and expected to reach capacity early. A dedicated drop-off zone will be located on Hospital Rd at Art Gallery Rd.

A-League Men: Macarthur FC v Central Coast Mariners at Campbelltown Sports Stadium. Kick-off at 7pm, full time around 9pm.

Traffic may be heavier than usual as fans travel to the stadium during the weeknight evening peak. Allow extra travel time on roads including Pembroke Rd, Rose Payten Dr and Leumeah Rd.

Motorists should also be aware of increased pedestrian activity in the area.

NBL: Sydney Kings v Illawarra Hawks at Qudos Bank Arena. Start at 8:30pm, finish at 10:30pm.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park as fans travel to and from the game. Allow extra travel time on roads including the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road.

Attendees who need to drive are encouraged to pre-book parking online ahead of time to secure a space, available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior.

Sydney Olympic Park Authority may close local roads in the precinct to ensure pedestrian safety during events. For road closure details, view the interactive map.

From 3pm 31 Dec until 2am 1 Jan the following roads in Point Piper will close, with no access until roads reopen.

• St Mervyns Ave from New South Head Rd
• Wolseley Rd northbound between New South Head Rd and Buckhurst Ave
• Wunulla Rd northbound between New South Head Rd and Wunulla Rd (lower road)

Motorists should expect delays leaving the area after the midnight fireworks and should travel later to avoid peak traffic congestion.

Motorists are reminded that access into various Eastern Suburb peninsulas will be restricted to local residents only, in some areas access is restricted to all vehicle traffic including residents.

• From 3pm roads into Darling Point peninsula from New South Head Road will close until 2am New Year's Day, including New Beach Rd and Loftus Rd.
• From 6pm sections of Annandale St, Darling Point Rd, Hampden Rd, Mona Rd, Greenoaks Ave, Yarranabbe Rd and other local roads will close until 2am New Year's Day.

Motorists should expect heavy traffic leaving the area after the midnight fireworks and should travel later to avoid the peak traffic.

Motorists are reminded that access into various Eastern Suburb peninsulas will be restricted to local residents only from 3pm. Some areas access is restricted to all vehicle traffic after such time.

• From 11.30pm NYE until 2am NYD: sections of Bradley's Head Rd, Prince Albert St, Thompson St and Whiting Beach Rd will be closed.

• From 3pm until 7pm, Taxis and rideshare vehicles will be permitted through closures with proof of residence pick up / drop off. From 7pm until 1am, all taxis and rideshare vehicles will not be permitted through closure points.

This is not suitable for B-doubles or vehicles over 4.6m high.

B-doubles and vehicles over 4.6m can use Gardeners Rd, O'Riordan St, Botany Rd, Henderson Rd, Wyndham St, Gibbons St, Regent St, Cleveland St, City Rd (Princes Hwy) and Parramatta Rd to M4 Mwy or Broadway, Wattle St, Pyrmont Bridge Rd and Western Dist for access to City West Link or Victoria Rd.

Motorists travelling from the M4 Motorway towards the Anzac Bridge will need to use Wattle St, and City West Link.
